Antenatal Care
Antenatal screening tests are arranged by a Consultant Obstetrician and performed only with the woman’s informed consent following a pre-test discussion with the woman, preferably together with her partner.
Upon visiting their Consultant at 132 Harley Street, a nurse will undertake some observation tests prior to their appointment. This is in the form of a urine analysis to test sugar levels, white blood cell levels and any traces of blood. The patient will also be weighed and her blood pressure and pulse recorded.
Potentially adverse results from screening tests are given in person by the Consultant Obstetrician within 48 hours of the result becoming available, enabling counselling and support to be provided. All women and their partners are offered counselling whatever their reproductive choice or the outcome; this would be arranged by their Consultant.
All women receive advice from their Consultant Obstetrician about signs and symptoms of problems such as pre-eclampsia or early labour and have telephone contact numbers provided by their Obstetrician for advice at any time.
