Dr Matthew Banks

Dr Matthew Banks is Consultant Gastroenterologist, Director of Endoscopy and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London Hospital.

He is a lead consultant in endoscopy at the Lister Hospital, Chelsea, London, and also practises privately at The London Clinic.

The conditions which Dr Banks commonly treats include gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, Barrett’s oesophagus, Upper GI cancers and Colitis.

His has special interests in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy and colorectal cancer screening.

Dr Banks trained in London and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), British Society of Gastroenterology, and American Gastroenterology Association.

He has undertaken fellowships in advanced endoscopy in Sydney, Australia (2004 – 2005) and the National Cancer Centre, Tokyo (2007).

Dr Banks is widely published and is a recognised national endoscopy trainer.

Dr Charles Blakeney

Dr Charles Blakeney is Director of Radiology at 132 Harley Street.  He is one of the most experienced radiologists in the Capital with over 20 years experience with all forms of radiology including Ultrasound, CT scanning, Angiography and other interventional radiology.

Dr Blakeney describes radiology as a speciality which provides a rapid, efficient and accurate diagnostic service to clinicians in many areas of medicine.

He has been a prolific author of and contributor to medical publications and holds a number of honorary appointments at the Royal London Hospital and is also a regular examination contributor at the St Bartholomew's and Royal London post graduate and other courses.

Miss Deborah Boyle

Deborah Boyle trained at Sheffield University. Post-registration, she moved to London and undertook Postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Awarded an MD in 2000 for the thesis ‘Does bacterial vaginosis cause cervical intraepithelial neoplasia’ and MRCOG in the same year, she was appointed as consultant at the Royal Free Hospital in 2007. Dr Boyle is also a Diplomate of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health since 1996.

Her current NHS role at the Royal Free Hospital is as lead for Emergency Gynaecology and with specialist clinics in vulval disease / disorders, colposcopy and rapid access to cancer diagnostics.

Professionally, Dr Boyle has combined interests in vulval disease, gynaecologic oncology, sexual and reproductive health, gynaecologic diagnostics as well as general gynaecology and has published in all these areas. Her most recent publication – ‘Religion and Medicine’ – is a book designed for healthcare providers and those with an interest in the interface of religious belief and the delivery of healthcare.

Widely travelled and with a range of personal interests including reading, cinema and hillwalking, Deborah Boyle is a firm believer in the ‘whole person’ approach to medicine and tries to integrate physical and emotional care into her practice in the belief that we are a combination of body, mind and spirit.

Ms Stojanka Bulic

MS Stojanka is originally from Croatia. She arrived in London 1993 and qualified as a beauty therapist three years later, combining her background in social work with a career looking after people on a daily basis. After working for a friend in Little Venice, in 2000 she decided to found “The body and skin care room” where she has worked as full time therapist ever since.

Extending into the complimentary therapy sector gave Ms Stojanka an opportunity to meet the needs of more clients and extend her knowledge, as she believes that learning and personal and professional development should never stop. She qualified as a reflexologist (2004), has taken course in manual lymphatic drainage (2006) and has qualified as a lymphoedema therapist, Dr Vodder Method (2008).

Finally she is a member of the Association of Reflexologists and MLD UK. She has done voluntary work at CancerKin at Royal Free Hospital as Manual lymphatic drainage therapist.

Karen Cohen

Karen Cohen has been practising Acupuncture for 23 years and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. She is also a qualified NLP Master Practitioner, with a strong background in psychology.

While she has a successful and broad practice, Karen has developed several areas of special interest. These include, gynaecology, fertility issues, IVF preparation and support, pregnancy, labour and induction of labour.

Fundamental to her practice, is the importance of the rapport between patient and practitioner. The combination of her NLP skills and acupuncture provides Karen with a powerful tool in the treatment of conditions such as stress, trauma, anxiety, bereavement, emotional and creative blocks.

Miss Christina Cotzias

Miss Christina Cotzias is a graduate of Birmingham University, where she was awarded a 1st class honours degree in Physiology, as well as Batchelor of Medicine and Surgery. As a postgraduate, she trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at London teaching hospitals.

Miss Cotzias consults privately at 132 Harley Street and The Lister Hospital, Chelsea, and runs a practice that specialises in most areas of gynaecology (excluding oncology and urogynaecology), where she looks after women of all ages with a wide variety of needs. Her NHS practice is at West Middlesex University NHS Trust where she runs a comprehensive Gynaecology Clinic and is the Lead Clinician for the Labour Ward.

Mr Nigel Denby

Nigel Denby is a Registered Dietitian with a special interest in women's health - menopause, PCOS, PMS, weight management and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Nigel Denby's career began as a Research Dietitian at the Human Nutrition Research Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. After a period working as a Community Dietitian, Nigel left the NHS to join Boots Health and Beauty Experience where he led the delivery and training of Nutrition and Weight Management services.

Nigel has published five books and writes about food and nutrition for the Sunday Telegraph and other national press as well as regularly appearing on television. He is a spokesman for the British Dietetic Association and is nutritional advisor to NAPS, the National Association for Pre Menstrual Syndrome.

Mr Michael Dooley

Mr Michael Dooley, who trained in London, became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1986 and a Fellow in 1998.  He is a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dorset County Hospital in Dorset.  He is a Co-Director of Fertility Services for Dorset and Medical Director for the Fertility Unit at The Winterbourne Hospital.

Mr Dooley is also the Medical Director of the now renowned Poundbury Clinic near Dorchester – a clinic dedicated to women's health.  He also has a private clinic at the Lister Hospital in London.

Mr Dooley has a distinguished record in the training and education of undergraduates and post graduates and he has contributed to and published a wide range of papers on reproductive medicine and gynaecology.

Mrs Helen Forth

Helen Forth qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1996, and completed her postgraduate qualification in women's health physiotherapy in 2000, gaining full membership to the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women's Health (ACPWH) at that time. Helen completed her MSc in Physiotherapy in 2005 and was awarded a distinction. The topic for her research dissertation was the effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment for women with vulval pain.

Helen has worked at the Royal Free Hospital since September 1996, specialising in women's health in 1998. She is currently the lead clinician for women's health physiotherapy, and has been extensively involved in developing and expanding the service, including the development of primary care and extended scope practice physiotherapy clinics within urogynaecology and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Helen has been a member of the ACPWH journal committee since 2002, and has recently become a member of the ACPWH executive committee. She regularly lectures undergraduate Physiotherapists at the University of East London, and is a Clinical Educator for postgraduate MSc students from the University of Bradford. Helen has published papers on Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, the development of a continence assessment pathway in acute care, and the interaction between the abdominal and the pelvic floor muscles – demonstrating the wide range of her interest and experience in all aspects of women's health physiotherapy.

Mrs Jo Hockey

Mrs Jo Hockey is a consultant gynaecologist at the Royal Free Hospital. She graduated as a doctor from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1991 and obtained her MRCOG in 1998. An MD was awarded in the same year for her thesis investigating the causes of incontinence and bladder function in women.

At the Royal Free Hospital Mrs Hockey has set up the urodynamics unit and has developed the team specialising in the care of women with bladder problems, birth trauma, pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence. She also manages a large general gynaecology clinic caring for women with conditions ranging from menstrual problems and fibroids to ovarian cysts and menopause symptoms. Mrs Hockey has an approachable manner and believes that although some problems might be expected following childbirth they need not be left untreated. Mrs Hockey enjoys practising privileges at the Wellington Hospital where she is able to perform any necessary surgery.

As Clinical Lead for Gynaecology at the Royal Free Mrs Hockey is involved with the management of gynaecological services and also is part of the obstetric on call team. Mrs Hockey teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates and is a peer reviewer for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology journal. Her research has been published and presented internationally.

Dr Etienne Horner

Dr Etienne Horner is from Switzerland and trained at The Women's University Hospital, Basel Switzerland under Professor Wolfgang Holzgreve where he was also a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist before moving to London.

He Joined Professor John Studd and his team and together they participated in the multi-centre testosterone patch trial for women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

Dr Horner's key interests are obstetrics, recurrent miscarriage, menopause, premature ovarian failure and premenstrual syndrome and he was part of the specialist team at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital. He was then appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

Being of Swiss origin, Dr Horner is happy to consult in English, German and French.

Mr Shaun Hammond

Mr Shaun Hammond is a specialist complementary therapist in the areas of hypnotherapy, spiritual healing and psychotherapy.  He is also a lecturer for the UK College for Complementary Health care.

The main focus of his work is counselling and communications skills, maximising therapeutic effects with the use of hypnotherapy and psychotherapy. Among the conditions he treats are anxiety and stress, trauma, addictions, reducing the side effects of clinical drugs and he offers a comprehensive therapy for those patients who are HIV positive.

Dr Niall Power

Dr Power studied and graduated in medicine in Ireland and later trained as a Radiologist at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals.

He is currently a Consultant Radiologist with an interest in gastrointestinal imaging at Barts and the Royal London Hospitals.

He teaches undergraduates and post graduates at Barts and Kings College Hospitals and is a regular contributor to specialist publications and author of a large number of specialist papers.

Mrs Sheela Purkayastha

Mrs Sheela Purkayastha graduated from the University of Calcutta in 1969 and gained her MD in 1974 from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She obtained her MRCOG in 1982 and FRCOG in 1997 and was awarded FFFP from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2006.

She has over 25 years experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and now practices solely in gynaecology. She has worked in teaching hospitals in India as well as in Iran before moving to the UK in 1980 and speaks 3 Asian languages as well as Persian. In the UK she has worked in both district and teaching hospitals, most recently The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in West London.

Mrs Purkayastha specialises in general gynaecology with special interest in colposcopy, menopause, PMT, cases with PCO, contraception and family planning. Her book on Post Reproductive Gynaecology is widely used by medical students, trainee doctors, nurses and general practitioners.

Professor Wendy Reid

Wendy Reid is a consultant gynaecologist at The Royal Free Hospital in North London. Miss Reid has a special interest in pelvic floor problems, prolapse, childbirth trauma and especially, vulval disease. She is a council member of British Society for Vulvovaginal disease and a member of the International Society for Vulval Vaginal Disease.

Miss Christine Robinson

Main Clinical Interests - all methods of contraception, menopause, well woman screening, HPV vaccination and medical gynaecology.

Christine Robinson graduated from Cambridge University in 1982. She trained in Gynaecology and Reproductive and Sexual Health in London (St Thomas' Hospital and St Mary's Hospital) and Cambridge (Addenbrooke's Hospital) gaining the MRCOG in 1990, the MFSRH in 1994, FRCOG in 2003 and FFSRH in 2006.

Her first Consultant appointment was in Bedfordshire where she was also the Trust Medical Director and Clinical Governance Lead. Currently she is a Consultant in London (Southwark PCT), and consults at the Lister Hospital, Chelsea.

Christine took up office as the President of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in 2008 and is also a member of the RCOG Council. She has taught extensively both in undergraduate and post graduate curriculum. Publications include those on clinical topics and clinical governance.

She offers a holistic service combining aspects of sexual and reproductive health with medical gynaecology producing individualised tailored care for each patient.

Mr J. Richard Smith

Richard Smith was born in Scotland and educated at the University of Glasgow.

He trained as a doctor in Glasgow and in London, obtaining his MRCOG in 1988 and graduating with an MD from the University of Glasgow on cervical cancer, immunity and infection in 1992.  Thereafter, he worked as lecturer and senior lecturer at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School.  He then became Director of Gynaecology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and became visiting associate professor at NYU Medical Centre in New York. Subsequently, he was made an adjunct associate professor at NYU Medical Centre.  He has a long running interest in doctor / patient communication and is the series editor for a series of books entitled Patient Pictures which has sold 240,000 copies.  He is also editor of the Atlas of Gynaecological Oncological surgery which is now in its second edition.  He has written a number of other books and also has 50 peer review publications.

Mr Smith's current research interests include fertility sparing surgery for women with cancer and he is also the leader of the UK uterine transplantation research team.

He has lectured on the subject of HIV in obstetrics, gynaecology and fertility sparing surgery for cervical cancer in the UK, across mainland Europe, Russia, South Africa and the United States.

Mr Michael Stafford

Mr. Michael Stafford graduated from the Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital in 1986 and was awarded MRCOG in 1993 and MD in 1998. He became a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London in the year 2000 where he is currently Chairman of the Hospital Medical Staff Committee. Michael is also the surgical member of the Riverside Ethics Committee, Director of the North West Thames advanced post-graduate training modules and an undergraduate interviewer, examiner and tutor for Imperial College.

He has published and contributed to a wide range of specialist publications covering his specialist areas of general gynaecology, colposcopy, urogynaecology and infection including sexually transmitted disease. As a Medical Research Council research fellow he was awarded his MD thesis in 1998, concerning methods of preventing HIV transmission. He has also written a book on doctor/patient communication in gynaecology with 150,000 copies sold. Michael is clinical lead for the Urogynaecology Service at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as well as running a busy general gynaecology and pregnancy control service.

Dr Anthony Yardley-Jones

Tony Yardley-Jones is an experienced specialist in Occupational Medicine. He is currently Director of Occupational Health and Consultant in Occupational Medicine at The Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading and at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London. He has also worked with international businesses for over 20 years in all aspects of occupational health. He is a consultant adviser in occupational medicine to several private and public sector organisations. Referrals cover the full spectrum from stress management, performance issues and health screening and surveillance work to consultations regarding redeployment or rehabilitation for employees with varying medical conditions.

Tony is interested in the links between various medical specialities and complimentary groups in order to increase our understanding of the neurophysiology of performance and behaviour. Based on work with several businesses he is interested in the development of models, techniques and interventions which will enhance individual, team and corporate performance. This has led him to look particularly at the neurophysiological mechanisms by which different emotional states affects Heart Rate Variability and how interventions to change such variability can reduce the harmful physiological responses to stress thereby improving well being and individual performance.

Miss Jeannie Yoon

At 132 Harley Street, Miss Jeannie Yoon specialises in general gynaecology, colposcopy, obstetrics and issues concerning menopause, PMT and contraception.

Jeannie Yoon is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Her NHS practice is at The Homerton Hospital. She trained at St Thomas' Hospital and has worked in major teaching hospitals - including St Thomas', Queen Charlotte's, Chelsea and Westminster and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford – all of which are tertiary referral centres for high risk pregnancies and specialist gynaecological services.

In addition to her obstetric care and work with polycystic ovarian disease, menstrual disorders, PMT, problems of the menopause and contraception, Miss Yoon has specialist knowledge of abnormal smears and colposcopy, having spent three years at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London as the Cancer Research Campaign Fellow.

Central to Miss Yoon's approach to obstetrics is her belief that pregnancy is a natural healthy condition and childbirth a normal physiological event for a woman to experience. Her priority is the safety of the mother and child, yet Miss Yoon feels strongly that it is every woman's right to choose the type of obstetric care and support she would like to receive, be it a natural or assisted delivery.

Miss Yoon combines rigorous professionalism with a personal touch, creating an open relationship in which mothers to be and patients are kept informed every step of the way about what to expect and the choices available to them.
